There is also a Will for Cynthia P. Parsons in 1855. she was 52 & single, this could be a sister of Charles. Her death certificate lists her as born in Vernon, Vermont, daughter of Andrew & Rebecca Parsons. On the Windham Co., VT web page there is a bio of Samuel Luke Parsons, grandson of Andrew Parsons. It says that Andrew was "the son of a British sea captain and nephew of Chief Justice Theopihilus Parsons, was an early settler of Vernon; coming from Connecticut at the close of the war of the Revolution, in which he was a soldier, he purchased a portion of the Howe grant and cleared himself a home. He there reared a large family of children." Charles may fit in this family since Andrew was apparently born in CT, as was Charles's father.

Note: Ella's first marraige and the susequent divorce are recorded in the Bedford County Courthouse.
Clyde Kennel divorced her because she was "living in open adultery" with Frank Wilhelm in Londonderry twp.
In 1933, Ella Wilhelm was arrested for running an illegal liquor joint and bawdy house in Stringtown. She is running the place with a Karl Nissen. What happened to Frank Wilhelm after they married in 1924 and before 1933? In 1937 she is still using the name Wilhelm when she's listed on her mother's estate.
Sometime after 1937 and before her death in 1958, Ella married William Kemp. She is buried (without any of the aforementioned husbands) in the Cook's Mills Cemetary by her parents.

Note: I should look for a divorce for Rhoda and Harry Lape. Since her mother's eatate in 1936 lists her as living in Hyndman, PA and Harry Lape appears to have lived in Somerset his entire adult life dying there in 1966. Also, my aunt Pauline seemed to think Rhoda and Gilbert Lowery had been married a long time. This is really only possible if she divorced from her first husband.
Note: Bedford County land records show a sale of land to Jonathan Hendrickson by William Welch and his wife Susan on June 27, 1849. A later deed shows a purchase of land from Sarah Smouse by William Welsh (no wife mentioned) in 1887. This tract of land adjoins the property of Jonathan Hendrickson.
A land record dated Dec. 24, 1909 gives timber rights on the land owned by William M. Welsh, Rose A. Welsh & Henry A. Welsh (as heirs of William H. Welsh, deceased) to W. O. McLane. This tract of land being sold to William Welsh by Sarah Smouse, et. al. in 1887.
On 5 Mar 1878 William H. Welsh bought 35 acres of land from Grafton & May Brant (Mary was his Matilda’s sister) for $75.00. This land was located on the Mason Dixon line, Bottle Run. Md.
1889 Allegany Co., Md, voter records show William to be age 45, born in PA, and living in Bottle Run for 33 years.

This 1860 census appears very messed up, but I'm pretty sure it's my William.

Gender: Male
Post Office: Cumberland

Name Age
William Welsh 26
Sarah Welsh 22
Alsa Welsh 1
Why would I think this is my William? Well he's living two houses away from his brother Thomas Welsh with a Leasure listed in between and Jonathan Hendrickson next door. In 1870, William, Caroline & all their children are four houses from Thomas Welsh in District 13, Allegany Co., MD with two Leasure's listed in between and Jonathan Hendrickson still right next door. I think the Alsa is a mishearing of Allison, Henry's middle name. As for the Sarah thing, I'm stumped. It can't be a different wife, William & Caroline Matilda got married in 1858. Could the census taker have misheard Matilda that badly?
1900 census Allegany County, Md. shows William owns his farm free and clear. He can read but he can't write.
Since he owned a farm, it's odd that I was unable to find estate papers in Allegany county.
Death is possibly after June of 1904, since Alice Minerva's obituaryon June 3, 1904 lists him as William Welsh of Hazen, Md and not the "late" William. I've searched the Bedford Gazette and can find no obit for him in 1904. I couldn't find on e in the Cumberland Times obit exceprts either.

Rachel is buried at the Bethel Church in CVT, Bedford Co., without Benjamin. Perhaps he is buried back on the farm they owned in Bottle Run, Allegany Co., MD where they were living in 1880.
Benjamin was still alive in July of 1883 when he renounces any claim on his wife's estate [Allegany Co., Md. Orphans Court Records, Book U, P. 2 on microfilm]
Occupation: Place: Farmer
Note: Rachel's tombstone is very faded and difficult to read. Her death date either reads Mar. 24, 1883 or May 24, 1883. Her age at death was 52 yrs., 4 mo, 22days. So her birthdate is either 2 Nov 1830 or 2 Jan 1831.
