Note: One of the three most powerful Earls in England before the Norman conquest.
Built the Monastery of Coventry in 1043.

Note: Her husband tyrannized the church and extracted heavy taxes from the people of
Coventry. Godgifu begged him to relent and he agreed to do so if she would
naked through Coventry on market-day. Clothed only in her hair, she did so.
She was so well-respected, the citizens of Coventry averted their eyes, all
except Peeping Tom who, it is said, was stricken blind.
The Celtic name Godgifu would be pronounced "Godiva."
Note: Lord of Leuchars, 1st Earl of Winchester. Was often sent as an Ambassador by
King Henry II and later, King John. Was the Baron chiefly responsible, with
Stephen Langton, Archbishop of Canterbury for the drafting of the Magna Carta
in 1215. He died at Acon, April 25, 1264, enroute to the Holy Land.
