On May 2, 1676 the Kimball family was attacked by Indians (three of them going by the names of Peter, Andrew & Symon). Symon killed Thomas and he and the others took Mary Kimball and her five children captive and carried into the wilderness. They were held for 41 days and returned without ransom, thanks to the intervention of Penobscot chief Wanalauncet.
